西大坦村是沙田镇下辖的行政村，原在镇的最西部，东邻穗丰年村，西面和南面濒临狮子洋，隔江与广州市南沙区、番禺区相望，北靠福禄沙村。村政府网站称，2025年全村有956户，户籍人口2312人。[1]

村名取自所处的位置，村子因地处沙田最西部而得名。据传约150年前这里是大片海滩，水上人家常来此栖身，之后渔民中有人上岸围田定居。2009年12月，因虎门港建设，全村整体搬迁至西大坦新区。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

村内原先按十字涌分出东、西、上、下四片围田，后增设新围，共五个村民小组。土地由冲积滩涂形成，历史上以农业和渔业为主。[1]

2009年12月1日，西大坦新区举行入伙仪式。新区占地约256亩，建筑规模约18.89万平方米，共有1098套住房，博雅地名网称能安置近两千人。[1][2]

防潮与设施[edit]

旧村所在的海岸筑有一级海堤，全长约5100米，堤面可行汽车（百度百科）。新区内设有村委会综合办公楼、警务区、卫生所、图书馆、文化广场和体育设施，还有龙舟协会、曲艺协会等社会组织。[1][3]

经济与党建[edit]

村政府网站称，村里通过盘活闲置地和边角地壮大集体经济，并计划利用小区附近的闲置地招商出租。党员110人，设三个党支部。[1]

名胜[edit]

快懂百科称，西大坦村的海岸线上有一段「海鲜长堤」，是沙田较为知名的海岸景点。[4]
