南五社区位于广东省东莞市厚街镇南部，107国道（S256省道）穿村而过，交通十分便利。社区的前身是1951年并村而成的南五村。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
1951年，桥头乡的雀岭、东坑、塘新、山丽、水口五个小村被并为一村。因为它位于桥头之南，而并入的村数又恰为五，村名遂称「南五」。这一时期村的行政面积为1.6平方千米。[1]
1957年后，此村仍归桥头管辖，直到1961年才另设厚街公社南五大队；1987年改称南五管理区，1999年改为村，并经民主选举产生第一届村民委员会。[1]
博雅地名网的镇页则作南五村面积2.5平方千米、户籍人口1200余人，两处数字不同，统计时点也未说明。[2]
社会事业与建设[edit]
社区村民每月享有福利分红，并有医疗与养老保险。社区先后投入上千万元完善市政道路与文化康体设施，建有南五文化公园，并建设了市场、幼儿园，推进旧村改造。[1]
