镇口社区位于虎门镇西部，古称缺口，明初设巡检司，是莞邑西南的水道重镇。1839年，林则徐在村前海滩销毁鸦片，村中留有纪念遗迹，1957年开建了抗英纪念馆。[3][4]

外来人口约3.1万人，户籍人口3421人（2024年）。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

村子在明代已经立村。建国后归东莞县第六区，1958年隶属虎门公社，成为镇口大队；1983年改为乡，归虎门区。1987年并入虎门镇，设镇口管理区。1999年为镇口村委会，2005年改为镇口社区居委会。[1]

村地古称缺口。背靠大人山西麓，前临东江支流，直通太平港，明初立巡检司，此后成为地方政务中心。清初白沙司并入缺口司，村中后来设有粤海关分关，洋船入境须在此报关查验，是莞邑西南的贸易埠头。[3]

销烟与纪念[edit]

清道光十九年（1839年），林则徐督粤禁烟，在村前海滩焚销鸦片二万余箱，东莞市政府网称此事震动中外。[3]

大人山上，广东水师提督署寨墙旧址沿山脊分布；附近的义勇之冢建于清光绪十一年（1885年），是虎门保卫战中牺牲的清朝官兵的合葬墓，1974年迁至牛背脊山山腰。[4][1]

1957年，村中开建抗英纪念馆。近年又加以修葺，山顶立有林则徐石像。[3]
