北栅社区位于虎门镇北部，广深公路穿村而过。村人姓陈，村名旧称凤岗，以村后的山岗得名。北栅陈氏形成大族，明清两代科名不断，是虎门的名乡望族。[2]
外来常住人口约7.2万人，登记在册的户籍人口为5335人（2024年）。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
北栅陈氏的先祖出自颍川，唐代迁入广东。北宋末，陈常任盐政官员，经常往来靖康、大宁盐场。南宋初年，陈氏举家迁居大宁，其后第六代陈述喜爱此地山势，迁居于此，成为凤岗陈氏的一世祖。因村子位于盐场北侧，俗称北栅。[2]
明代，陈氏世祖陈倡兴办教育，捐资献产建成凤岗书院，此后数百年间一直是靖康一带的教育中心。清末，全村统计有陈氏祠堂96座，民谚有「北栅祠堂当粪坑」之说。[2]
民国时，村人多外出谋生。八十年代初，港澳同胞捐资建校，兴学之风在虎门地区较早。[2]
名人[edit]
陈懋芬于1915年出生于北栅西方的贫苦人家，1926年入读北栅农会办的平民学校，学业优异。[3]
