大宁社区位于虎门镇北部北栅村以南，历史上是大宁盐场所在地，宋代属广东主要的十三大盐场之一。村民以谭姓为主，2005年命名为大宁社区居委会。[1][3]

外来常住人口约六万，登记在册的户籍人口为3527人（2024年）。[2]

盐场与村落[edit]

此地古为浅海，秦汉时已产海盐。宋初，官府在此设大宁盐场。它与靖康、东莞（今宝安南头）两盐场同属广东的十三大盐场，所产的莞盐运往省内外各地。[3]

据族谱，谭氏先祖由江西迁入南雄，后裔谭住月于南宋高宗绍兴四年（1134年）举考廉，授官东莞。他退官时从广州东双桥举家迁居大宁，被称为一世祖。[3]

明朝时，谭氏所办的宁溪书院与北栅的凤岗书院并称一时；清朝又重办靖康社学，为虎门培育人才。大宁现辖博头、江门两个自然村。[3]

1979年以后，村里调整产业布局，利用荒岗坡地辟建大板地、麒麟头两个工业区，引进来料加工企业。[3]

行政沿革[edit]

新中国成立后，此地称北宁乡；1958年起为大宁生产大队。1986年设大宁乡人民政府，1988年成为大宁管理区，1998年又改为大宁村民委员会，2005年才定名大宁社区居委会。[1]
