霄边社区位于长安镇东部，河对岸便是深圳，大革命时期曾设有农民协会等革命组织，辖区面积约8平方千米。[1][3]

社区下辖13个居民小组。据东莞市人民政府门户网站，户籍人口4014人，常住人口约8万人（页面未注明统计年份）。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

据东莞市人民政府门户网站，霄边始建于元代。明清以来，这里依靠平坦的地势和便利的交通发展农业与商贸，形成了长安地区的墟市万和墟。[1]

据博雅地名网，此地旧称萧边，后改为现名。新中国成立后设霄边乡，1958年并入公社体制，成为霄边大队；1983年复设乡，1987年又改管理区，1998年转为村委会，2005年改组为社区居委会。[2]

革命历史[edit]

博雅地名网记载，1924年10月，霄边农会建立，主要负责人为蔡庭谦与蔡满福。同年十一月，「东莞县第一区农民协会」成立，蔡如平任委员长。[3]

霄边农民协会遗址由芑诒堂蔡氏宗祠、将军山神庙和德馨堂蔡氏祠堂三处建筑组成，分别始建于1580年、1680年和1850年前后。芑诒堂与将军山神庙在1996年列为镇级第一批文保单位，德馨堂则于1999年列入第二批。[3]

蔡如平故居位于正大街南社五巷3号，始建于清末，后被烧毁，1974年在原址重建，为二层楼房与单间两进建筑围成的小院。[4]

著名人物[edit]

蔡如平（1888年—1948年），原名祖荫，1888年生于霄边村。他1923年赴广州做工，1924年初任国民党中央农民部特派员；同年秋入中国共产党，成为东莞最早的一批党员之一。[4]

1927年，蔡如平回到东莞，主持重建中共东莞县委。1948年秋逝世，东莞县政府于1957年追认其为革命烈士。[4]
