塘厦社区坐落在塘厦镇中心区，镇里的经济、金融、文化与教育机构大多集中于此。社区的东界是石马河，南边挨着振兴围，西边连接诸佛岭，北边与林村、莲湖接壤，面积6.8平方千米。2017年前后，户籍人口3727人，另有外来人口约4.7万[1][3]。

行政沿革[edit]

解放初这里叫塘厦圩，属莲塘乡。1958年成立塘厦人民公社，圩镇划入公社的农场。1964年设为圩管理委员会。博雅地名网称，1984年原农场大队并入圩镇，同年成立塘厦镇[2]。1987年改设管理区，并挂出居委会的牌子，但居委会不是行政机构[2]。1999年两者合并，以塘厦居委会的名义成为村级行政机构；2004年正式命名为塘厦社区居委会[2]。

社区情况[edit]

社区分为4个居民小组，设有警务室，党工委下辖2个党支部，党员83人[3]。辖区内的重点路口和人流密集路段装有100多个电子监控探头。社区把旧厂房改成光华农贸市场，还在围仔居民小组建设商贸五金综合大厦[1]。

社区开设了老年活动中心，借助市民学校、道德讲堂和妇女之家等平台组织活动。居民满意度调查显示，整体满意度为95%[1]。社区获得的称号有东莞市“市容环境优美社区（村）”、“市平安社区”，以及广东省“‘六好’平安和谐社区”[1]。
