北隅社区位于莞城街道东北部。它东面以红川路与东城街道的梨川社区为界，南面临着莞城运河，西面借振华路与大西路同西隅社区相接，北面依傍东江。[1][2]

社区居委会下设九个居民小组，其中包括葵衣、镇海、新沙、田心等。社区设有党群服务中心和公共服务中心。2021年2月，司法部与民政部将北隅社区列为第八批全国民主法治示范村（社区）。[1][2]

面积与人口[edit]

街道网站称社区面积为1.28平方千米，户籍7233户，户籍人口约2.75万，常住人口约1.61万。博雅地名网则把面积写作约2平方千米，并称暂住人口约5360人；百度百科的户籍人口为27461人。各处数字不一，此处取街道网站所载。[1][2][3]

历史沿革[edit]

1924年设北隅乡公所，归县署管辖；1946年该乡公所撤销，并入县城镇。1949年后这一带称城外，归莞城市管辖。[2]

1958年公社化之后，这里成为北隅生产区；1971年组建北隅革命委员会。1980年以后改称北隅管理区，1999年又改为北隅街道工作办公室。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

东湖寺位于新沙坊。清康熙六年（1667年）有人捐款兴建，捐款者为太常寺少卿尹源。寺院现存两进，后堂已毁，原先为三进，朝向为坐西北朝东南。[2]

文化与荣誉[edit]

居民常在榕树下纳凉，社区便以“榕树头”为中心，组织歌咏、曲艺、舞蹈、棋艺和健身等活动。[1]

社区获评「全国和谐社区建设示范社区」。2024年1月，社区获得「全国示范性老年友好型社区」的称号，评定年份为2023年。2020年12月，社区列入广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1][2]
