上甲社区位于东莞市万江街道西南部，辖六个居民小组，地处东江支流环绕之间，东侧有在建的五环路穿过。村名由「滘口」音转而来。[1]
地名由来[edit]
据博雅地名网，南宋嘉定三年（1210年）黄姓族人在此立村，因村址位于河涌的滘口（河流交汇处），最初名为上滘口。「滘」字在本地方言与书写中渐渐音转为「甲」，遂称上甲口，后简称上甲。[1]
行政沿革[edit]
1991年，原罗屋壆管理区一分为二，上甲与严屋各自成为管理区，「上甲」这一行政区名就此确定。2003年完成村改居，设立上甲社区。[1]
博雅地名网的历史沿革所记为2005年命名社区居委会，与此处的2003年有出入，两说并录。[1]
文物[edit]
上甲谢氏宗祠位于宝树路一带，年代为明清，2012年11月公布为第九批东莞市文物保护单位。[1]
