简沙洲社区位于东莞市万江街道中心的南端，辖有三个居民小组。社区名字来自一段水乡沙洲的旧事：当地沙粒洁白，先前称涧沙洲。[1]
地名由来[edit]
博雅地名网称，明天启元年（1621年），几户人家由福建、四川一路逃荒来到此地，见土地肥沃、水草丰茂，便定居下来。此处原为一片三角洲，后被海水冲刷分割成六个小洲，即今清水凹、虾公坎、厦塘、古鱼洲（已不存在）、新洲和简沙洲。最初称「六洲」，后因沙粒晶莹，改名涧沙洲。[1]
行政沿革[edit]
村落的建立可追溯到清道光五年（1825年）。新中国成立前后，此地仍属坝螺乡，之后划入胜利管理区。1987年它脱离胜利，成为独立的简沙洲管理区。1999年设村委会，2005年起称社区居委会。[1]
产业[edit]
传统上以纸业为主，社区内有工业企业189家，其中124家主要生产纸品。这一数据未注统计年份。[1]
荣誉[edit]
2019年9月，社区获评2018年度广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」的创建单位。[1]
