牌楼基社区位于东莞市万江街道南部，四周有107国道、万道路、市四环路和泰新路围成井字形路网，华南摩尔就在社区旁边。社区名字来自村口旧时的一座石牌楼。[1]
地名由来[edit]
博雅地名网称，三百年前，杜氏始祖自附城峡口迁来，最初把此处叫作金鱼洲，因为河水清澈，常见金鱼游动。后来万江尹姓有人考中功名，在金鱼洲嘴（今牌楼基水闸头一带）立了石牌楼，地名便改为牌楼基。[1]
行政沿革[edit]
此地曾先后归属莞城镇金泰乡和金泰大队，又经历拆出另立大队、归入金泰管理区等变动。1991年自金泰拆分，设牌楼基管理区；1999年改为村委会，2005年定名为牌楼基社区居委会。[1]
人口[edit]
博雅地名网称，社区辖一个岳潭居民小组，常住人口1534人，未注明统计年份。[1]
