蛤地社区是南城街道下辖的社区，辖区在街道东南，东莞大道穿行其间，西侧与东莞植物园相邻，全境约8平方公里。[1]
地名[edit]
据社区资料，地名与一处形似青蛙的墓葬有关：粤语与客家话中，青蛙称「蛤」，墓葬称「地」，故得名蛤地。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
1958年，修建水濂山水库使连登、大埔两村被淹，迁居者在新址立村，名为立新村；龙旺埔的黄姓村民就地另建村落，即新农村。1966年坑口水库修筑，草塘村水田被淹，村民迁往厚街。1969年，小板岭划归蛤地生产大队，定名新板岭。[1]
人口与荣誉[edit]
社区现有户籍人口3403人，均为客家人，常住1319户，新莞人约6000人，下辖10个居民小组。获评国家科普示范社区、省卫生社区、省体育先进社区等荣誉。[1]
