堑头社区位于东城街道的运河片区，行政面积1.1平方千米，另有牛山新兴工业区0.6平方千米。[2]

社区邻近东莞城市中心区，博雅地名网称社区的商贸圈是在三旧改造政策推动下形成的。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网，南宋时此地立村。1949年时归莞城镇风山乡管；1952年改属东莞县第五区，称樟树乡；1953年设堑头乡，归东莞县第一区；1957年并入罗治大乡。1958年改由附城公社管辖，称堑头大队。1984年为乡，1987年为管理区，1999年成为村委会，2005年村改居。[1]

社区内的户籍家庭有849户，其中原居民2398人，全部户籍人口3216人。行政区域里的外来常住人口在9000人以上，新兴工业区另有3000余名外来常住人口。[2]

社区下设10个股份分社，集体经济依靠行政区与牛山新兴工业区的物业出租。当年集体两级的资产合计41100万元，收入合计4583万元。[2]
