上桥社区位于东江南支流下游南岸，在莞龙路以北，土地总面积1.5平方千米，其中建成区约1平方千米。[2]

社区于2002年撤销村委会、成立居委会的说法见于其概况页；博雅地名网主页则载为2005年村改居。两说的年份不同，本条目照实列出。[1][2]

据博雅地名网，1958年上桥属樟村乡，同年成立上桥大队；1984年改为上桥乡，1987年改为管理区，1998年设村委会。社区概况称2002年撤村委会成立居委会，历史沿革则称2005年村改居，两处不一致。[1][2]

统计至2017年5月下旬，社区的常住户数为355户；户籍居民1446人；外来人口估计3500人左右。[2]

厂房方面，社区有标准厂房35幢，合计建筑面积26万平方米，人均厂房约192平方米，另有两处工业区和一个工业园。[2]

社区商业街全长约2.5公里，商业铺位三百多间。另有一座农贸市场（面积约1.8万平方米），还有民办小学和幼儿园各若干所。[2]
