桑园社区位于东城街道东北方向，距街道办事处约8公里，辖区面积约6.5平方千米，内设3个居民小组和1个股份经济联合社。[1]

社区前身为桑园村，据载由温塘迁来的袁、陈两姓先祖建村，因村中多植桑树而得名。2003年改为东城街道桑园社区。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

1949年这里属榴花乡，1952年属温塘乡，1954年设桑园乡，1958年并入樟村大乡，同年成立桑园大队。1984年改称桑园，1987年为桑园管理区，1999年成立村委会，2005年定为社区居委会。[1]

2016年底统计时，全社区登记有947户家庭、3867名户籍居民，此外外来人口在2.7万以上。辖区有2个工业区、110栋标准厂房，企业约210家，多为传统中小加工制造企业。[2]

社区有两棵细叶榕，树龄分别约300年与102年；另有广场、公园、老人活动中心，并保留村史展览室。[2]
