花园新村社区位于东城街道内，东莞市房地产开发总公司于1985年前后动工建成了这一片社区。社区靠近新河北路，与堑头、樟村两个社区相邻，是一处成熟的商住区。[1][2]
社区于1992年经市政府批准改归附城区管辖，2005年成立社区居委会。辖区占地约0.9平方千米，户籍人口约1703人。[1][2]

社区在1985年开始建设，1990年起陆续有人入住。1992年之前归莞城区管辖，那年经市政府批准改归附城区。2005年成立社区居委会，沿用至今。[1]
社区概况[edit]
社区约有3000户、8000多名居民，户籍人口约1703人。商业面积约20万平方米，以花园商贸广场为龙头，广场内有超市与酒店。[2]
社区建有文娱活动中心、电子阅览室和农家书屋，小公园与球场若干，2014年又建成综合服务站，内设图书、健身、棋牌、书画等室。[2]
