读楼村位于福堂镇的西南部，离镇政府约10公里，东面与良善村相邻，北面与太平村接壤。[1][2] 村名源于此地过去有一座较高的独立楼房，人称「独楼」，后取其谐音定名。[1] 村内人口1139人，属少数民族地区。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1961年起名竹楼大队，翌年改名读楼大队；1983年成为读楼乡，1986年改为管理区，1999年改设村委会，沿用至今。[1]

人口与产业[edit]

村委会管辖天鹅、喇叭口、石寨等12个村民小组。[1] 耕地共1549亩，水田占941亩；山地则有42489亩。[1] 村民收入靠生态公益林补偿金与劳务输出。[1] 2023年起本村发展羊肚菌种植，该项目被列为连山「百千万工程」培育项目，预计2024年产值超250万元。[2]

社会事务与荣誉[edit]

2023年5月，广东省爱卫会授予东水村「2022年广东省卫生村」称号。[1] 2022年8月，读楼村被确定为「2022年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位。[1] 2020年，村庄获评「广东省森林乡村」。[2] 福堂供销社与村委会签署“社村”合作协议，双方将在销售农产品、社会化农业服务和建设村级综合服务社等方面合作。[2]
