西潭村位于龙颈镇西南部。石马河水流经石马墟西侧时冲刷出一个水潭，村名由此而来[1]。

2019年9月，西潭村列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单[1]。

历史沿革[edit]

西潭先为西潭乡（1953年），1958年改作大队，1983年重新设乡。1986年起称村委会，1989年划入管理区，1999年再设村委会。2004年5月，石马镇撤销，本村改属龙颈镇[1]。
