历史沿革[edit]
村名的来历是建村之初，附近有一座亭子，屋顶盖的是金黄色的瓦，村名由此而得。[1]
村里的建制有过几次变化：1951年成立农会，1958年以前为大队，1983年建乡，1989年改为管理区，1998年成为村委会。[1]
下东村属金亭村，它获得省爱卫会颁发的「2022年广东省卫生村」称号，公布时间是2023年5月。[1]
