马塘村位于太平镇西南部，村委会距镇政府约5公里，下辖39个村民小组。[1]村名据传来自旧时大队旁的一间罗经庙：庙前的鱼塘水面能映出奔马。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1950年此地归马塘乡，1958年成为马塘大队。1983年重设马塘乡，乡里包括联南、杨星、中华、马岳四村。1986年乡制取消，联南、杨星、中华与马岳各设村委会；1989年改为马塘管理区，2004年联南、杨星、中华三村并为马塘村委会。[1]

2022年10月，马塘村获省农业农村厅认定，为2022年广东省「一村一品、一镇一业」专业村（鳜鱼）。[1]

村域面积7.1平方千米，耕地3160亩，鱼塘2339亩，1355户、5082人。以水稻、花生、香瓜、西瓜为主，并养殖塘鱼。[1]
