元头大队于1978年成立，1984年这里成为元头乡。1987年2月起设村委会，其后又为管理区，1999年重新设村委会。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2019年9月，元头村列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]
