此村在1958年为林石大队，1983年为林石乡，1987年为林石管理区，1999年设立林石村委会[2]。

2020年8月，林石村以黄精入选首批「一村一品、一镇一业」专业村名单[1]。

2019年9月，林石村列入2018年度广东省民主法治示范村创建名单[1]。
