地理环境[edit]
高陂水由北向南穿过全镇，河段长约13.9千米，发源于高莞水库，最后汇入忠信河。[1] 高莞水库的库容，镇政府网站作673万立方米，博雅地名网作743万立方米。[1][2] 全镇另有四座水电站，分别在高陂水库、右坑、龙塘坑与富山，总装机1830千瓦。[1] 面积一项，镇政府网站作62.5平方千米，百度百科作67.68平方千米。[1][5] 昆汕高速公路自东向西经过，省道253线正在推进建设，自南向北贯通全镇。[1][2] 镇内矿产有钨矿、铁矿等。[2]
历史沿革[edit]
民国初年，这一带属高湖乡，后改为中莞乡。解放前，高湖、中莞两地合称，由此得名高莞。[3] 1961年，高湖、中莞两乡先并为高莞公社，两年后又划归忠信公社。1977年3月，高莞重新从忠信析出。1983年，建制改为区；1987年撤区设乡；1994年7月，乡改为镇。[3] 维基百科称该镇1979年设立，其依据未见于上述页面。[4]

镇政府网站称全镇总人口2.47万人。[1] 第七次全国人口普查的结果是1.36万人（2021年6月公布），在连平县各乡镇中排第7位。[3] 百度百科引用的户籍人口为22443人，为2019年末数字。[5] 三种数字的口径与年份各不相同。
经济[edit]
花生是镇里的支柱产业。镇政府网站称，本地有规模花生加工厂8家，产品以珠三角为主要销区，花生产业年产值约1.8亿元（该网站2026年5月的数据）。[1] 博雅地名网则称，全年加工产量超过100吨的中大型加工户有13家，并以源发花生加工厂为龙头。[2] 2022年10月，省农业农村厅认定高莞镇为「2022年广东省一村一品、一镇一业专业镇」，主营花生。[3] 全省专业镇创新发展评价在2017年给该镇的等次为优秀。[2]
农作物以水稻、花生、大蒜、大葱为主，另有柑橘、花木、沙糖桔、脐橙等种植基地。[1][2]
文化教育[edit]
镇内有市级非物质文化遗产鲤鱼舞。按当地传说，盘古开天辟地时是鲤鱼带路才找到水源，人们为纪念此事，每年农历正月初四祭神时舞起鲤鱼。[1] 教育方面，初中一所，小学三所，幼儿园一所。[1]
名胜古迹[edit]
镇政府网站提到的名胜有凤凰山、麒麟山，以及灵鹫寺与灵山庵。[1] 文化设施方面，有高陂寨革命史迹馆和刘侍卫纪念馆。[1]
高陂寨战斗旧址在河西村，博雅地名网称位于忠信圩至高莞水库公路约11公里处的西侧。[6] 连和县人民政府于1949年1月设在青州山塘。同年3月3日，我军解放了高陂。3月4日，国民党方面的部队分两路来犯，被击退，当日战斗结束时击毙敌方营长、连长及士兵37人。[6] 2011年5月，连平县委、县政府立碑保护。[6]
著名人物[edit]
清代武术家刘凤楷生于1769年、卒于1821年，字岐甫，出生于高村大蓝屋，出身武术世家，父亲刘道南为乡间武师。[3] 博雅地名网还列有颜希深、颜检、颜伯焘、何健生、谢国平等与本镇相关的人物。[3]
