下郭街道是广东省茂名市化州市的一个街道，在市区的西南面，以广湛铁路与鉴江为界和河西、东山两街道相分，总面积约43平方千米[1]。街道办事处设在环市南路，辖霞宝、兴郭2个社区和下郭、多谷、潦口、灵村、石狗塘、文子山、坡尾、官田、黄槐9个行政村[1][5]。2019年末总人口为43381人[1]。

历史沿革[edit]

1932年，这一带设城南、下郭、坡尾、多谷等乡，归化县第一区；1937年后属化县附城镇[4]。1958年改属环城人民公社，其后曾先后改属环城区、城郊人民公社和城郊区[4]。1987年2月并入东山镇，1994年1月东山镇撤销，转属化州镇[1][4]。

1994年9月化州镇建制撤销，化州市在市区设东山、河西、下郭3个街道办事处，以鉴江和广湛铁路为界，铁路以南的部分称下郭街道[1][4]。

地名由来[edit]

街道以辖内的下郭村得名。该村原在化州城外围的左下方，旧称“下廓村”，后来“廓”与“郭”通用，写作“下郭村”[2]。

地理环境[edit]

街道在化州市区西南部，东边隔鉴江，南边有广湛高速公路的出入口，西边是207国道，北边是河茂铁路，境内另有梅石、化梅两条公路[3]。

经济[edit]

据早年的概况材料，街道农业以淡水养殖、禽畜、水果、蔬菜和化橘红等城郊型生产为主，是化州市生猪和淡水鱼的主产地之一；工业行业有木材加工、副食品、日化用品、花岗岩、金属铸造等，共393家企业，规模以上的13家；从业者7500人，年产值13.8亿元[3]。第三产业以批发为主，设有水果、副食、三鸟、建材、文体用品五大批发市场[3]。

2019年，街道税收总收入22728.6万元，其中市级入库7487.6万元；固定资产总投资95732万元，比上年增长16.95%[1]。

人口[edit]

早年概况材料称总人口4.1万[3]；2019年末总人口为43381人[1]。博雅地名网引第七次全国人口普查结果，称2021年6月公布的街道人口为5.9万，在化州市各街道乡镇中居第7位[2]。

名胜古迹[edit]

下郭冼太庙在松木岭，供奉冼夫人，始建于明万历初年，现庙1994年奠基、1996年落成，主体为两进三间，另有辅助建筑围成四合院[6]。百度百科称它为茂名市级文物保护单位[6]；维基百科则记其为化州市（县级）文物保护单位，1995年7月25日公布[7]。

余行成夫妇墓在下郭村上店大岭，为元代古墓葬，是化州市第四批县级文物保护单位[8]。

概况材料还提到潦口姑婆庙和下郭冼太庙是辖区内的重点文物保护单位；姑婆庙流传“黄蜂为媒”的传说，被列为“橘州三奇”之一；下郭村被称作“粤西第一村”[3]。
