西苑社区属广东省湛江市，在赤坎区寸金街道辖区内，属主城区，与拥军、寸金、九二一社区相邻。[1]据博雅地名网，「苑」指有草木、有水的广阔之地，「西苑」本指帝王居所，取以寓居民高雅之意。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

该地先后称西苑大队（始设于1980年）、西苑乡（1983年）、西苑居委会（1986年）和西苑管理区（1989年）；2002年起再称西苑居委会，即今日的社区。[1]

2019年9月列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单；2022年8月另在2022年8月入选该省2022年度同类创建单位。[1]
