甘化社区位于广东省江门市蓬江区白沙街道辖区内，属主城区，管理甘化小区一带，名称取自当地的江门甘蔗化工厂[1][2]。甘化新村原为该厂1980年代修建的职工宿舍，2011年移交社区管理[2]。2022年1月被江门市住房和城乡建设局确定为「2021年江门市绿色社区」；2024年1月被确定为「2023年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」[1]。

历史沿革[edit]

江门甘蔗化工厂的前身是1957年4月在北街动工兴建的北街糖厂和江门纸浆厂。1958年7月，周恩来视察两厂工地后提出合并，并亲笔定名为江门甘蔗化工厂，成为兼营制糖、造纸的联合企业[3]。1966年该厂日榨甘蔗能力3500吨，1984年提高到5000吨[3]。2021年11月30日，工业和信息化部公布的「第五批国家工业遗产」名单中包括该厂[3]。

社区所在地另有新宁铁路北街火车站旧址和蛇山防空洞等历史遗迹[2]。

文化[edit]

据2020年的报道，社区的新时代文明实践站建筑面积1200平方米，设13间功能室，组建了8支志愿服务队，并通过“百姓议事亭”协商处理停车、垃圾堆放等居民诉求，该亭自2019年3月成立至报道时已协商解决56项[2]。
