历史沿革[edit]
相传赤窖村建于明嘉靖年间。谢氏族谱称其祖先于宋末避乱迁到金窖乡。[2]村名的来历，据载是昔日村道为泥路，雨天泥泞，潮语“稀”与“窖”谐音，故称窖；清乾隆年间村里出了进士，村民渐富，官府赐名“金窖”，因“金”与“赤”同义，后改称赤窖。[1][2]村落原呈椭圆形，村边一条小溪环绕，四面各有小路通外，形如龟足，又有“龟地”之称。[2]
1958年划归汕头市郊区，1965年归澄海县，1974年又归郊区，1991年郊区撤销后属金园区；1998年称居委会，2002年称社区居委会，2003年3月起属金平区月浦街道。[1]管理区的设置在1993年，村委会在1996年。[2]
地理环境[edit]
村面积0.7平方千米，东边是护堤公路，西边靠近潮汕公路，韩江梅溪从村边流过。[2]
人口民族[edit]
2003年全村526户，共2329人，农业人口占2079人。旅居香港和南洋的乡亲较多，侨港同胞和海外侨胞的家属约占全村人口十分之一。[2]
经济[edit]
耕地570亩，粮食种水稻、地瓜，经济作物有蔬菜和柑，养殖生猪和家禽。[2]改革开放后，部分村民转而经商或从事服务业。村里设有一所小学、两处敬老院和一个卫生站。[2]
荣誉[edit]
2017年10月，赤窖社区与湖头社区一同入选首批广东省卫生村；2019年9月又进入广东省2018年度“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建单位名单。[1]
