历史沿革[edit]
1717年（清康熙五十六年），妈屿从潮阳县改隶澄海县。民国年间它在澄海县浦区之内；1949年后先是汕头市郊区金砂乡的一部分，1956年分属妈屿乡与马澳乡，1961年归入金砂公社。1979年起岛上辟作旅游区。1986年设妈屿村委会，由汕头经济特区龙湖行政管理局的妈屿岛办事处管理；1992年划入龙湖区珠池街道；2000年10月撤村设居委会，2002年定名为妈屿社区居民委员会；此后改属新设的龙腾街道。[1][3]
地理环境[edit]
妈屿原写作「马屿」，因远看像一匹从水中露出头和背的巨马而得名；又因岛上有新、老两座妈祖宫，称妈屿。旧时渔民出海前到岛上拜妈祖，须备活鸡，拜后就地放生，岛又得名放鸡山。[1][2]
岛长约0.65公里，宽约0.64公里，海拔39米，海岸线长约2.3公里；岛面积各说法不一，博雅地名网称0.97平方公里，百度百科称0.26平方公里。岛在德洲水道的北面，离北岸大陆约0.3公里，与德洲岛一同守着汕头港口。[1][2][4]
人口民族[edit]
据博雅地名网，社区总面积0.2平方公里，总人口1693人，设党支部和居委会，「两委」成员6名，另有老年人协会和妈宫理事会。[1]
文化[edit]
1853年，清政府在妈屿岛设立潮州新关；1860年1月1日，由外国人管理的潮海关在岛上成立，汕头开埠。20世纪30年代，「鸡港樯林」「妈屿观潮」两景被评为汕头八景。[2][5]
旅游区的景点有老妈宫、新妈宫、潮海关旧址、东海普陀山寺、海龙王庙、娘娘石像、观海亭等。[4]
2022年8月，妈屿社区成为「2022年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」的创建单位；2024年4月又进入「广东省第一批乡村振兴示范村」的创建名单。[1]
