八合村在汕头市龙湖区新海街道，位于津东路与金新路的交会处，靠近原新溪镇的集镇区[1]。村名“八合”来自当地围垦海滩、合并成村的传说，因其在各合村中自北向南排第八而得名[1]。

历史沿革[edit]

相传清同治年间，澄海外砂一带的谢姓人家在港堀外围的海滩上围垦，把滩地合并成村，沿海岸从北往南依次排列，这里排在第八，村名由此而来[1]。此地宋代归揭阳县的蓬洲都，1563年澄海建县，蓬洲都随之转入澄海县，民国时仍在澄海县上蓬区。1958年建人民公社，村里成立生产大队，次年一度随外砂公社划入汕头市郊区，1961年6月重新回到澄海县，隶属新溪公社[1]。

经济[edit]

村里的耕地约410亩，其中水田353亩，种植水稻和蔬菜，也养殖家禽和生猪，“三鸟”年饲养量五万多只，生猪一千五百多头[1]。2006年，村里投资四百多万元，把与中三合市场相邻的集体自留地建成综合市场，占地六千多平方米，建有商铺6幢共117间，每年为村集体增收七十多万元[1]。统计显示，2009年村里工业产出6550万元，农业产出994万元；村集体当年收入7.3万元，农民人均纯收入为4489元[1]。

荣誉[edit]

2019年9月公布的名单中，八合村名列2018年度「广东省“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建单位」[1]。村里在册人口2007人、423户[1]。
