历史沿革[edit]
民国年间此地归南溪乡管辖。1949年后南溪乡先改设南溪区，同年11月又改为库口区，1952年归入贯岭区的范围。[1]
1958年公社化时，这里分归南溪与库口两个公社，次年合并到桐山公社之下；1968年又从桐山公社划出，另设南溪公社。[1]
1971年，南溪公社改称玉石公社；1982年改名叠石公社；1983年设为叠石区，直到1987年改建为乡。[1][3]
地理环境[edit]
桐山溪是境内主要水系，自西往东穿过全乡后注入沙埕港。[2]
乡内山岭起伏，溪谷纵横，属亚热带山地季风气候。[3]
博雅地名网列出的农业主导产业包括水稻、甘薯、槟榔芋、蔬菜和茶叶。[2]
名胜古迹[edit]
竹阳村银硐自然村的竹洋银硐遗址，属宋代官营玉林场的采矿遗迹。北宋熙宁年间（1068年至1077年）开始开采，矿产以银、铅、铜为主，现存采矿点15处，占地约1.8万平方米。[5]
叠石村的叠石关隘建于五代闽国时期，用于防备吴越国；南北两侧的关墙与南侧牛脖子山上的烽火台留存至今，关墙全长约83.5米。该处为福建省第十批省级文物保护单位。[4]
文化[edit]
福建省2018年至2020年度省级文明村镇社区名单于2021年2月公布，叠石乡在其中。2022年3月，乡获「2021年福鼎市平安乡镇（街道）」的命名。[1]
