历史沿革[edit]
关于镇名的来历，博雅地名网的说法是：此地原为退潮后露出的浅海滩涂，可用来养殖，人们称之为“埕”，故名沙埕；百度百科则说镇境盛产蛏，“埕”指养蛏的地方。[1][4]
1949年福鼎解放后，沙埕属第一区前岐，原有沙埕乡。1952年5月增设第三区沙埕，1958年沙埕设立人民公社，1963年4月撤销沙埕镇。1982年至1983年间，沙埕公社改称区，沙埕为区属镇。[2]
明代，郑成功和张煌言曾在沙埕抗击清兵。[4]
地理环境[edit]
沙埕港是镇境的重要港湾，博雅地名网称它为中国东南沿海最优避风港之一。全镇气候属亚热带海洋性季风气候。[1][4]
2025年末全镇户籍户数9658户，按土地面积计，每平方千米户籍人口586人。[3]
经济[edit]
镇境临近台山渔场，博雅地名网称该渔场是闽东主要渔场之一，出产黄鱼、带鱼、鳗鱼、墨鱼和虾。[4]
农业以薯类、水稻和小麦为主。乡镇企业中有造船厂、五金厂和棕麻厂。[4]
文化[edit]
沙埕铁枝列入国家级非物质文化遗产名录。这一习俗约在明末清初由泉州一带传入闽东沿海，表演时由人抬或推行的铁枝架逐渐加高，今已达到约10米，架上的人物由少年儿童扮演。[5]
据沙埕《刘氏宗谱》，该族先祖于乾隆十一年（1746年）从泉州永春迁居沙关，即沙埕一带，此后每年正月十三至十五搬演铁枝。[5]
沙埕线狮，又称抽狮，属于线狮舞的一种，是沙埕渔家元宵节的传统活动。元宵出游时的线狮表演由和平村负责，村中的成员每年临时组织参加。[6]
