下白石村是下白石镇政府所在地的行政村，位于白马河畔，东靠白马河，西邻通湾洋村，南接白招村，北与斗门头村相邻。村名与镇名同源，原名黄岐。[1]
地名由来[edit]
该村旧称黄岐，传说黄氏家族最早迁居大崎，村因而得名；村名后随镇名改为下白石。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
据博雅地名网，村址在唐代已有建置；明景泰六年（1455年）属秦溪乡秦溪里三十四都，清道光以后改编为保。[2][3]
1929年设下白石乡，并作黄岐区驻地。此后它在黄岐乡与黄岐保之间变动，1949年成为第七区驻地。1950年改为村，1956年重新作为镇驻地。1958年划为大队，并设公社于此；1961年又做区驻地，1966年复为公社驻地；1984年由大队改为村。[3]
概况[edit]
据博雅地名网，全村辖8个自然村、9个村民小组，共2856人、664户。现有耕地约350亩，林地约1062亩，多种水稻与蔬菜。[2]
2009年以来，沈海高速与福温铁路先后建成，村内建有海滨公园、健身场、幸福院、图书室、党群服务中心和海鲜一条街，村民以“海鲜小镇”自称。[2]
