上白石镇位于福建省宁德市福安市北部，地处福建、浙江两省与泰顺、福安、柘荣三县（市）的交汇处，104国道由镇境穿过。镇域内交溪流域的水域资源较为丰富，生态环境良好。2020年11月1日零时，全镇常住人口为10747人。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

镇名的来历有两种说法。一说，古时有仙人渡溪，见河心露出一块白色奇石，遂称「白石」，驻地村位于河的上游，故前加「上」字；另一说，径直以驻地的上白石村为名。[3][4]

1929年建立的上白石乡归东溪区管辖，1946年以后称白石乡。1949年秋，它与范坑乡并为第二区。1958年夏天改称上白石乡，同年秋又改为公社；1961年改设区，1968年恢复公社的名称。1984年改回乡的建制，直到1989年4月才撤乡设镇。[3]

镇政府网站称，上白石地处福安北部，是农业重镇和重要的集散中心，境内交溪流域水域资源丰富，生态环境优良，被认定为福建省级生态镇。[1]

人口民族[edit]

第七次全国人口普查统计，2020年11月1日零时上白石镇常住人口为10747人。与2010年第六次全国人口普查相比，全市22个乡镇（街道）中有13个人口减少，上白石镇是其中之一。[2]

经济[edit]

镇域以农业为主，主产水稻、薯类和小麦，兼产油茶、茶叶和水果。[3]

镇政府网站的介绍中还提到，当地有「茶叶之乡」的说法。[1]

文化[edit]

镇内有一所完全中学（八中），另有一所中心小学和幼儿园，中小学教育体系较为完整。[1]

2024年1月，上白石获得「2023年福建省卫生乡镇」的命名。[3]
