赤岩村位于福建省宁德市周宁县泗桥乡西北约4公里处，地处屏南、政和、寿宁与周宁四地交界的山间小盆地，是宁德通往闽北的古道要冲。村委会驻赤岩自然村，302省道穿境而过。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋初此地属宁德县关隶镇，咸平三年（1000年）起划入建宁府关隶县。明景泰六年（1455年）归寿宁县管辖，编入政和里七都；民国期间设在寿宁县第六区之内。[1][2]

1955年9月，赤岩与纯池乡同时改属周宁县。1956至1960年间改称周宁县纯池区赤岩管理区，1961年成为泗桥公社下的行政村，1984年改为村委会。[1]

村名经历多次更改：原名胡厝里，因胡姓居民聚居于后门山边而得名；明末村落扩大，因设巡检司衙门，改称衙后村；清康熙后期改称司前村；清末因衙门与房屋建在一块大赤色岩石上，改名赤岩村。[1]

赤岩村辖七个自然村，其中墓亭仔、红桥头、上岔头、通洋头四处先后因交通不便或修路，村民迁往赤岩，现已废弃。[1]

人口民族[edit]

居民以谢、周、吴、王姓为主，多为明代以前由福安、浙江、庆元等地迁来定居。[2]

文化[edit]

村中的谢笑山，清代贡生，曾重修赤岩石拱廊桥，捐出水田作学田，开办义塾，聘请塾师为近村学童免费授课。[2]

民国13年（1924年），谢笑山获大总统曹锟颁赐《褒文》及匾额。[2]
