此地在1958年设为大队，1985年才设立村委会。[1]

主产茶叶、杉树与毛竹，山地农林业是村中经济的主体。[1]

2017年8月，高际头村列入「福建省第二批省级传统村落」名录。[1]

2021年11月，福建省爱卫办授予高际头村「2021年福建省卫生村」称号。[1]
