狮城镇是福建省宁德市周宁县下辖的镇，位于县境中部的东洋溪畔，周宁县人民政府驻于镇内，镇区即县城所在。[1][2]

镇名因城北一座山形似狮子戏球而来，明嘉靖三十五年前后，此地的县城一度名为周墩。[1][3]

历史沿革[edit]

宋至明初，此地隶属宁德县青田乡东洋里。明宣德年间设麻岭巡检司堡于此。嘉靖三十五年，按察使舒春芳出资筑城，城址一度被称作周墩。[3][4]

清雍正十三年（1735年）此地设宁德县第五区公所；1935年，它又成为周墩特种区的区署所在。[4]

1940年设周墩镇，1942年改称狮城镇。1945年周宁县建立，县人民政府便设在这里。[1][4]

周墩在1949年6月和平解放，次年镇域分为城关、坂头、陈凤三乡。1952年城关乡更名为城关镇，1957年转为县属镇。[4]

1959年设城关人民公社，1961年城关镇恢复建制，1966年又改称城关公社。1980年城关镇与城郊公社分设；1984年城郊公社并入城关镇，名称恢复为狮城镇。[4]

21世纪初，狮城、南庄、仙溪的居民委员会与村民委员会整合，设立中兴、长安、城西、桥南、东园、兴福6个社区。[4]

地理环境[edit]

镇域位于周宁县中部，东洋溪流经镇区。东面隔龙亭溪与福安市相望，南连七步镇，西与北接浦源镇。辖区东西宽15千米，南北长16.5千米。[1]

据维基百科所载，镇区海拔888米，为福建省海拔最高的县城所在。[2]

2021年2月，狮城镇列入福建省2018至2020年度省级文明村镇社区名单。[3]
