三沙镇归属宁德市霞浦县管辖，处在全县东端一带，离县府所在地约21.2千米。全镇辖4个社区、27个行政村。[1][2][3]

地名由来据博雅地名网所载传说：三头狮驱走了五只作恶的老虎，护卫一方，乡人称之为「三狮」，因「三沙」与「三狮」读音相近，遂以为镇名。镇的别称为桃城。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

三沙一带在唐宋时属劝儒乡的擢秀里，元朝归入五都，明代至清光绪年间则属五六都。清宣统元年，此地以下东（三沙）区的名义设置行政区。1940年（民国二十九年）始称三沙镇；1949年镇制撤销，1952年6月复设。[4]

1954年冬，三沙被划入海岛区；次年五月又设三沙区，辖7个乡镇。1958年并为人民公社，1961年恢复区制；翌年秋，嵛山公社划给福鼎。1966年改为公社，1983年冬，公社更名为镇。[4]

地理环境[edit]

低山丘陵是境内地貌的主体，岩体以花岗岩为主，海岸曲折多澳口。气候为亚热带海洋性季风型，平均年气温为18.8℃。[2]

与福鼎隔海的嵛山岛遥遥相对，南面是福宁湾。西与西南面和水门畲族乡、松港街道相接，北面连着牙城镇。[2]

面积有两种记载：博雅地名网载为63.6平方千米，人口约3.29万人；百度百科载为71.41平方千米，2019年末户籍人口40405人。两者年份与口径不同，信息框中两个数字并列。[1][2]

名胜古迹[edit]

留云洞位于东壁村石厝，别称石厝、幻尘庵，是一处由自然石柱支撑巨石而成的洞穴。景区内有摩崖石刻，其中留云洞石刻于1986年2月列为霞浦县级文物保护单位，维基百科称石刻为清代碑记。[5][6][7]

百度百科称三沙镇留有民国至现代摩崖石刻二十余处，年代记载与维基百科不一，本条目不取定论。[2]

三沙天后宫碑刻位于东澳村，年代为清代，列入霞浦县文物保护单位名录的三沙镇条目。[5]

桃城古城堡遗址位于三农村水门顶，年代为明代，同列于该名录。[5]

著名人物[edit]

杜星垣生于1914年2月，2011年在北京去世，曾任国务院秘书长。维基百科称其为三沙镇人，百度百科载其籍贯为福建霞浦。[8][9]
