历史沿革[edit]
1958年设大队，1984年改设村委会。[1]
据蕉城区人民政府2022年12月发布的村情页，村域面积12.5平方公里，辖渡头、加厚坪、加厚、外表4个自然村，13个村民小组，共690户2531人。[3]
2015年10月，外表村入选「福建省第一批省级传统村落」；2016年12月，列入「第四批中国传统村落」名录；2021年4月，获评「2020年度福建省乡村振兴实绩突出村」；2021年12月，被确定为「福建省第二批高级版绿盈乡村（乡镇）」。[1]
名胜古迹[edit]
村内有一座县级文物保护单位「百二间」民宅，建于清中期，同时期的古民屋另有6座。[2]
村旁霍童溪的一段被当地称为小桂林，村中还有祀陈靖姑的韩水宫。[1]
著名人物[edit]
武术家林方溪（1695—1786）是本村人。[2]
