南美社区位于桂林街道南部，地处永福路口，与闽西南商贸城、汽车货运南站相邻。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

地名由来，据博雅地名网，因地处坑垅尾端的一块平坦土地而得名。此地俗称土地坪，后写作南美坪。[1]

1995年5月，南美村改为南美居委会；2003年5月，依照市社区建设工作方案的批复，改为南美社区居委会。[1]
