高明社区位于桂林街道南部，前身为高明村，1995年改设居委会，境内分布有石灰石矿与石墨矿。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

古时此地遍生芦苇，当地方言称芦苇为“官”，故俗名官林坑，又称官洋坑。明代雅称高明坑，后简称高明。据博雅地名网，取名之意在于地势较高、走势明确，寓意做人做事清楚。[1]

1949年初为桂华乡高明村，1950至1952年后属菁华区高明乡，后并入桂林乡；1958年起称高明大队，分别归红专、城郊、桂林等公社管辖；1984年又改称高明村。1995年3月撤乡设街道，同年4月村委会撤销，改设居委会。[1]

经济[edit]

境内的石灰石与石墨矿主要分布于此。[2]

文化[edit]

社区设有居家养老服务站、老人活动中心，以及党员和代表活动室。[1]
