村驻地与龙岩县的梅村相邻，位于溪流上方，村名由此而来。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代归河源下里，明清归河源里，民国时期隶属三民乡屏中保。1954年设梅村头乡，1958年划入莒溪公社，设梅村头大队。1984年起设梅村头村委会，隶属莒溪乡；1993年撤乡设镇后归莒溪镇。[1]
