下余村是姑田镇的行政村。南宋时，余姓始祖自永安迁来此地开基立业，这里因而称余门；村处余门之下，故名下余。村内有11个自然村：猪尾乾、郑地、连子坂、马胡坑、长坑、丰收、牛坑、下寨、上寨、下坪与上坪。村委会驻地在下坪自然村。[1]
