中堡镇位于武平县东北部，距县城42公里，是以山区为主的乡镇，辖内有多个村位于梁野山腹地或保护区边缘。[1][3]

镇域面积175.55平方千米，东面与上杭县相接，南面与武东镇相连，西面与永平镇衔接，北面与桃溪镇交界。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

地名与「回龙窝」有关：此地旧称回龙窝，一带筑有三座碉堡，居中的一座为主体，因而称作中堡。上堡后来称作林坊，即今林坊村。[2]

民国初年，此地先称中堡区，其后改为上中乡；建国初又归上中区管辖。1958年撤区并乡后析出悦洋、中堡、林坊三乡，人民公社化时三乡并为中堡公社，1961年改设中堡、林坊两个公社，1964年重新合为中堡公社。[4]

1984年复称中堡乡，至1995年11月才改设为镇，武平县行政区划页所载的时间与此相同。[4][5]

人口民族[edit]

2020年底公安户籍人口26962人；全镇共21个行政村，村民小组193个。[1][6]

地理环境[edit]

镇内矿藏以膨润土、花岗岩石、石英石与石灰石为多，另有金、银、铜等。水利方面有小水电站17座。[1]

新化、新湖、章丰、朝岭、梧地与大绩六村位于梁野山腹地，镇域内山林面积大，森林覆盖率为79.2%。[1][3]

文化[edit]

2021年1月，中堡镇上榜2020年度龙岩市「平安乡镇（街道）」名单；同年2月，又上榜「福建省2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单；2024年1月，中堡镇在2023年度龙岩市「平安乡镇（街道）」评定中获得认定。[2]

武平县第十四届省级文明乡镇的称号，于2020年12月15日授予本镇。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

梁野山白云禅寺位于镇内的梁野山中，始建于宋代，清康熙六十一年（1722年）重建，寺中墙体与梁柱皆用石料，占地面积560平方米。[2]

林氏家庙为武平县第九批县级文物保护单位；观狮山庙属武平县第八批县级文物保护单位；红十二军独立团部旧址飘香公祠则列为武平县第九批县级文物保护单位，三处均在镇内。[2]
