历史沿革[edit]
社区名称来自驻地所在的自然村，该自然村叫西厢。[1]
清代这里分为13个坊。民国时期属城厢镇的西乡保和西安保。建国后称西厢村，土改后称西乡乡，都归城厢区管辖。1956年划归城关镇；1958年命名为钢铁大队，取「钢铁般坚强」之意，隶属城关人民公社。[2]
1984年起设西厢村委员会，归平川镇辖。2018年，村改居，设西厢社区居民委员会，归平川街道管辖。[2]
