村名由境内上廖、赤凹背两个自然村的名称各取一字组成。[1]

全村耕地840亩，林地18600亩，其中竹林15300亩，以竹林为主要产业。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1984年，体制变化后村地仍属庵杰乡，改设上赤村民委员会。历史沿革一节记辖18个自然村，其中包括上廖、牛牯岽、福禄岭等，村委会设在上廖；基本介绍一节则记为26个自然村。[1]
