长窠头村位于南山镇，在319国道以南约1.5公里处，村名取自此地地形狭长。清朝年间，钟姓人由中复迁来定居，其先人以铸造铁锅为业。[1]

1970年自中复析出，另设长窠头大队；1984年后改为村民委员会。[1]

2023年12月，长窠头村入选「龙岩市2023年度乡村振兴示范村镇」名单；2024年2月，被确定为「第二批福建省乡村振兴示范村镇」创建对象。[1]
