桥下村位于南山镇，村中原有一座年代久远的龙田桥，村子在桥南，故名桥下。该桥今已毁。[1]

早年此地称桥下乡，与邓坊并为一乡、同属一个高级社。公社化后邓坊另设大队，四清运动中一度改称红桥大队，1976年恢复桥下之名，1984年起为村委会。[1]

「红一方面军独立二十四师驻址育成公祠」建于清康熙三十五年（1696年），坐落在本村。1934年8月，红二十四师从中复村转到此地集结，师部设于育成公祠；2020年11月，该祠被公布为「福建省第十批省级文物保护单位」。[2]

2019年6月，桥下村列入「第五批中国传统村落」名录；2021年12月，获评「2021年度福建省森林村庄」；2023年12月，被认定为「2023年度福建省一村一品专业村」（油茶）；2025年11月，被认定为「福建省第二批省级乡村振兴示范村」。[1]
