南山村位于长汀县东南部，是南山镇政府驻地，其东面是南田迳村，南面是大坪村，北面为严婆田村，村辖8个自然村。[1]

村名的来历：山南有南山河，河边冲积出一片荒坝，当地人称河滩为“坝”，故名南山坝，后简称南山，村落形成后即名南山村。最早在此开基的是吴姓人。[1]

建国后这一带先设区，随后南山坝、南田迳与元蔢田合组为南山乡。公社化后此地成为南山大队，1984年起为南山村委会。[1]
