苦竹村位于古城镇西南部，东与下增村相接，西与井头村交界，距集镇约2.5公里。[1]

地名由来[edit]

村子的土地上生长一种味苦的竹子，村名因此得来。[2]

生产与村貌[edit]

耕地915亩，山地8875亩。田里多种优质稻、烤烟与槟榔芋，山上则有油茶、板栗和毛竹。村中果园700多亩。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

解放前，村子归古城乡蕉下保管辖，解放后划入古城区的下都乡。1958年公社化后，苦竹是下都大队下的一个分支；1962年独立为苦竹大队，1964年又并回下都大队，1966年社教期间再度设为苦竹大队，1984年改为苦竹村的村民委员会。[2]

荣誉[edit]

2021年11月，苦竹村经福建省爱卫办确认为「2021年福建省卫生村」。[1]
