村子坐落在闽赣两省交界的山地，与江西瑞金市的泽覃乡地域相接。村子海拔约350米，与长汀县城的海拔大致相当。[1]
地名由来[edit]
据称，村子最早由严姓人家开基，后来村名以谐音改用“元”字。[2]
革命历史[edit]
当年毛泽覃烈士和汀瑞游击队在这一带活动、作战，全村共有烈士30余名。[1]
人口与生产[edit]
据2012年的资料，全村178户，总人口885人，共9个村民小组，有党员30名。全村耕地1275亩。2013年村里种植槟榔芋200亩、烤烟400亩、再生稻500亩。[1]
